Think with me of this scenario:
Life is okay! Every day you go about your routine trying to live life as best as you can and -- except for the stock market -- everything seems to be under control. You take that life is fine. When someone asks you: How are you?, the immediate response is: I'm fine!, followed by a big and broad smile. But deep inside you know there are certain points in your life that you are not completely comfortable with. Life is fine, but far from satisfying and fulfilling. Not knowing what to do, you simply bear with these rough spots and just go on trying to keep your head above the water, telling yourself that “life is not perfect.”
Do you identify with this scenario, or something similar? What if I told you that there is no reason for you to continue living life this way and that although perfection can be relative, fulfillment and satisfaction is possible.
This is what life coaching is: a journey of personal and professional discovery. It is a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the coachee (client) to maximize her/his personal and professional potential. Coaching has synthesized the best from business, psychology, philosophy, and spirituality to benefit those who are open and willing to make dramatic positive changes in all aspects of their lives.
The process is based on a partnership in which the coach comes to the relationship not as a subject-matter expert, but rather as an expert at helping the client clarify goals, identify purpose, form strategies and solutions, remove barriers, and promote accountability. The coachee comes open and eager for change, ready to be challenged, willing to go deeper and committed to taking the steps necessary for this journey.
While there is no magic bullet and you must be willing to do the work, by giving you the proper space, providing accountability and through expert powerful questioning, the coaching partnership can support you on clarifying your thoughts, organizing your ideas, bring you focus so you can build a life journey that is truly fulfilling and in synchronicity with your true self.
People come to coaching for diverse reasons: To make better decisions, to set goals, to change and move ahead in their careers, to improve relationships, to identify their passion and purpose, to simplify their lives, to create a healthier life-style, to reduce stress, to keep up with the speed of life, and many other reasons.
Intrigued? Next month we will talk a bit about the history of life-coaching and how this new help profession came to be. Stay tuned!
